Chicago Area Council Tour and Activity Plan

Revised May, 2012

The tour and activity plan is a planning tool for best practices to be prepared for safe and fun adventure. Completing the plan may not address all possible challenges, but it can help ensure that appropriate planning has been conducted, that qualified and trained leadership is in place, and that the right equipment is available for the adventure.

A tour and activity plan must be submitted if any of the following criteria are met:

*The event or activity takes place outside of Cook County, Illinois.

*The event or activity includes an overnight stay.

*The event or activity involves one or more of the following activities:

*Aquatics Activities (swimming, boating, floating, scuba, etc.)

*Climbing or rappelling

*Orientation flights (a flying plan must also be processed)

*Shooting sports

*Any activity involving motorized vehicles as part of the program (snowmobiles, boating, etc.)

Contingents organized by council, district, or Order of the Arrow, must also submit a tour and activity plan.

Application Procedure

The unit leadership completes the tour and activity plan on-line by visiting: www.myscouting.org and selecting tour and activity plan under “unit tool”. The unit certifies the plan; the council reviews the plans but does not approve them. The on-line version contains interactive prompts and warnings, and provides links to program-required training. Plans may be stored, retrieved, and reused. Units may print copies after submission to the council.

Units without access to myscouting.org, may complete the paper version (insert link) and mail, fax, or deliver it 21 days in advance of the trip to: Chicago Area Council, BSA, Tour and Activity Plans, 1218 W. Adams Street, Chicago, IL 60607; (F)(312)421-4725. Units will receive a copy returned via fax or mail that shows it was received and reviewed by Chicago Area Council.

For more information, you can view the Tour and Activity Plan training video and the Tour and Activity Plan FAQ page.
