The Labor and Scouting Dinner and Awards Ceremony is the first annual event that celebrates the many years of partnership the Trade Unions share with the Boy Scouts of America. The dinner provides a unique networking opportunity for members of the labor unions and their industry partners to come together in support of the Scouting community as they honor the work of exceptional men and women in the trades.
William Hite, United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitter’s General President, will be honored with the George Meany award for his dedication to the trades and youth in our communities.

The event benefits the local Scouting and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) programing. It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. In addition to traditional programs of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing, the BSA also impacts young adults with Exploring programs that are career based and designed to introduce on-the-job, first-hand experience. One of the goals from this reengagement is to establish Trade Exploring Posts. This will serve to introduce high school students to careers in the union trades and improve the number of youth that enter the labor pool.
