‘TIE IT UP!’ FALL CAMPOREE

Oct. 11-13, 2013: Our Fall Camporee returns for a second consecutive year to the rugged and beautiful Camp Solomon R. Crown in Trevor, Wis. It is only one hour’s travel but a world away from Chicago. The theme is “Tie It Up!” Designed by our Senior Patrol Leaders advisory board, this camporee is all about Pioneering, with some “Tie It Up” stuff for fun! Open to all Boy Scout troops, this camporee is set in the mountains and valleys of Camp Crown. Planned activities include:

  • An opportunity to earn Pioneering Merit Badge.
  • Two, one-mile compass courses for those who need map and compass requirements.
  • A competition for each patrol to make a 1/3 to 1/2 scale catapult or Trebuchet designed to fling a small pumpkin a GREAT distance. The patrol that wins will get a pumpkin pie with whip cream and a large box of pumpkin seeds.
  • A challenge to take your patrol through the knot yard. The patrol that is fastest in tying the square knot, bowline knot, tautline hitch, clove hitch, timber hitch, diagonal lashing and square lashing (average time per person for five patrol members in sequence) will win a cherry pie with whip cream.
  • A lashing challenge to lash together a vehicle with four wheels that will race down a mountain trail (unmanned) in an attempt to beat the other unmanned vehicles to the bottom. The winning patrol will win an apple pie with whip cream and the words to the Johnny Appleseed song so you can sing it as you eat.
  • The Saturday night campfire program will feature some rope tricks for you to learn.
  • Make it a great campfire program! Each troop should contribute a song or skit to the event and we will wrap up Saturday night with S’mores.

Boy and adult leaders must attend the 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, cracker barrel to begin the weekend and to sample camp delicacies as we go over Saturday’s schedule.
